Things to do when you're sad | Motivational Season Project

Hello fellow bloggers!

Sorry I haven't uploaded the last 2 weeks, I haven't had the chance to grab my laptop and actually sit down and write a blog post! But anyways lets crack on with this post...

So around this time of the year things can be or have been quite stressful, for example GCSEs and A-Levels (yes, I know I mention them quite a bit, I know), as well as generally what is happening in peoples personal lives and in the world. Feeling sad is quite a common emotion, and it is okay to feel sad and have a cry every now and again. In fact, it's healthy and part of life to be sad and cry. I find a lot of the time crying helps in situations and lets my emotions out shall we say. I've come up with a list of things to do when you're feeling low and under the weather, which should help you put that smile on your face again (I hope).

1. Go outside and get some fresh air:

When you go outside it's completely up to you what you do, whether that's going for a walk to going for a run or simply just sitting on a park bench and taking in your surroundings and getting some fresh air while doing so. Going for a walk or run is usually better as it takes your mind off of everything and after a run especially you feel a sense of achievement. Exercise in general makes the brain happy, and getting up and about will also give you a sense of achievement as you will have done something with your day instead of wasting one!

2. Run a bath:

Having a bath is my go-to when I'm down. I love baths so there is nothing I love more than picking one of my favourite LUSH bath bombs, putting on a face mask and playing one of my favourite playlists on spotify while lying there and relaxing. However, if you're an overthinker like me and don't think this will work for you, try reading a book or take your laptop or iPad in the bathroom with you and watch some of your favourite youtubers or Netflix to take your mind off whatever it is! Overthinking is the worst thing to do when you're feeling down- so try this!

3. Sleep:

We all know sleep can affect our moods, don't we? Now, don't get me wrong I love my sleep, I just can't seem to actually get my daily dose of 8 hours. I seem to always get under 8 hours of sleep and it drives me crazy as I wake up with the worst headaches and look like death in the mornings. Evenings can be our worst enemies, right? You're just lying there in bed, overthinking, caught up in your own thoughts and BAM you're still wide awake! This is me 24/7. I don't know about you guys but I always say to myself that I am not going to go on my phone or anything before bed, but no that does not happen. I end up being wide awake because of it. And this does not help the overthinking situation either. If you sleep perfectly - give me all your tips ASAP! However, I have found that listening to calming music before bed and during bed can help you fall asleep easier. So go give that a try! I have also heard that there are some sleeping apps available too when people like us are trying to get a good nights sleep.

4. Bake Something:

Focusing on something like baking can make you feel 100x better, especially if what you have baked is 5* quality and you want to show it off to all your friends and family! Find an afternoon where no-one is going to interrupt so the house is quiet, grab a cookbook and spend the afternoon baking until your hearts content. Invite a friend over if you fancy, because lets face it you can't eat it all on your own! And if all your plans fail and it turns out to be a disaster, just grab some chocolate and stick on a film instead!

5. Spend time with your friends:

If you're feeling sad, being alone is probably not the best situation. It's your worst enemy in fact. You start to feel more and more sad, you overthink and yeah, you know, you get the picture by now. Text your friends and ask to meet until you find one who is free. Get out of the house - go shopping, go for a Starbucks or some lunch. Or if you'd prefer to stay indoors and aren't really up for leaving the house then invite them over to yours for the day. Don't sit at home and dwell on the things you're sad about. Have a heart to heart with your friend(s) about everything and then leave it in the past - because remember don't dwell on the past it will only make you feel sadder!

What do you guys do when you're sad? Comment or tweet/dm me.
